FLL LEGO COMPETITION
Members of Raider Robotics volunteered at the FIRST Lego League competition held in London. Team members assisted in areas like selling concession, and anything that was needed for on the day.
The team members in Raider Robotics are passionate about learning and promoting science, technology, engineering, and math within the school and greater community. Our commitment to the community is incredibly important for us. That's why we have done all kinds of activities to reach and involve not only the students in H.B Beal SS but also the community in our surroundings.
SANTA CLAUS PARADE
The Raider Robotics Team volunteered to serve hot chocolate and hot soup to the crowds whom annually gather to watch London's yearly Santa Claus Parade. The diligent team members stood outside for hours in order to bring comfort to the community of London.
H.B BEAL SCIENCE OLYMPICS
The culminating task for students in Grade 9 Science classes this year was to compete in a "Science Olympics". Each class competed in 5 event, attempting to beat out the other teams and win the Science Olympics!
BOARD GAME DAY
Team members assisted in helping run the event which was created in order to give Beal students, their families, and the community a friendly environment in order to enjoy a classic form of enterntainment. Raider Robotics strives to become more interwoven with the community and to introduce FRC to the community.
Mr. Beal is a beauty pegeant for male teachers. Held on November so that it can work in conjunction with "Movember" as all proceeds raised from student votes go to Prostate Cancer Canada.
ROBOTICS ROUND UP
We hosted a dinner for over 150 people to celebrate the end of build season for the local FIRST community, sponsors and friends. Raider Robotics strives to become more interwoven with the community and to introduce FRC to the community.
BAKING FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE
Raider Robotics believes in giving back to the community. We enjoy going to the Ronald McDonald House to bake for the patients and their families
FIRST LEGO LEAGUE
Raider Robotics mentored 2 First Lego teams in the London Area, team 13836, The Forest City Think-a-Bots, and team 7035, Does Not Compute. It was very rewarding for our team to work with young students and see the creativity and intelligence that they possess. We loved the opportunity to mentor them and hopefully inspire them to continue in FIRST to the FRC level.
MR. BEAL II
Second annual Mr. Beal competition. Students bought votes for their favourite teacher, and the top 4 teachers competed the title of Mr. Beal. We raised over $400 and brought awareness of prostate cancer to over 11000 people.
MENTORING FRC TEAMS
In our Rookie year we worked closely with a mentor team 4814, who were fantastic to have on board. We hope to be able to provide that to another team, it would be incredibly rewarding. Recently, we met with hopeful students and teachers from another high school in London as they were starting to set up a team and we would love the opportunity to mentor them.
With the help of Microcad, we collected old and/or used electronics that people in the community did not use. Everything from old remotes to used computers was gladly accepted. We were able to divert over 5000 lbs of lectronic waste from landfills to facilities where they could properly be disposed.
Raider Robotics went to West Oaks P.S, to promote STEM to grade one students. The students were excited and intrigued as numerous science experiments were demonstrated. Some of the experiments that our team conducted included dry ice exxperiment, marshmellow tower, "elephant toothpaste", and lit magnesium on fire.
NUIT BLANCHE (FRINGE FESTIVAL)
Raider Robotics was invited to come to the Fringe Festival held in London to show off 5024 robot and promote FIRST and STEM in our community. We created a "mind control" game where one person from the audience wore a headset that monitored brain activity and the more toughts the person had, the robot would drive forward and push a launcher of paint to paint a canvas.
